C.J.C. SPRING MEETING.
In consequence of the heavy rain no work was done on the racecourse this morning. The betting is very quiet. The following were the odds quoted at Tattersall’s Club last night : —Derby : Even against Cheviot, 5 to 2 Nonsense, 5 to 1 Vanguard, 8 to 10 to 1 others. C. J. C. Handicap ; 3 to 1 against Salvage, 4 to 1 Lady Emma and Welcome Jack, 5 to 1 Betrayer and Turquoise, 10 to 1 others. Canterbury Cup :3 to 1 on the field. Welcome stakes :2to lon Oudeis, 3 to 1 on Oudeis, 3 to 1 against Malefactor, 4to 1 the rest. These quotations remain unaltered.
Turquoise was backed last night for L6OO at 100 to 20. Welcome Jack has also been backed for a large stake at 4 to 1. 100 to 30 has been taken for Salvage, and 100 to 20 about Lady iianma.
