SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs Coster (in the chair), Holmes, Allan, and White.— The clerk reported that since the last meeting Betts had completed Collins’ road in a satisfactory manner. Julian had completed Copeland’s road, which was passed, and he was now working in Cridland street. Clifford

It, was proposed by Mr White, and seconded by Mr Holmes—“ That as the contractors for moving culverts and altering crossings for water-races could not complete the work at the price tendered for, the offer of Mr Silcock at L 4 per culvert be accepted.” Carried. Correspondence was read : From Mr 0. N. Mackie, stating that through illness he regretted he could not attend the meeting. From the Ashburton County Council re the Kyle cemetery reserve, and requesting to be informed what the survey cost, and if the land had been transferred to the Hoard. From Mr C. Bell requesting the loan of the rate roll for the year 1882, to compile information for rating the district for the next three years. It was decided that the rolls could not be sent out of the office, but any information could be obtained from them at Mr Bell’s expense. From the Chertsey School Committee, requesting that certain roads leading to the school be formed. It was decided that as the roads were at present private property, Mr Makeig should write to the owners requesting them to transfer the said roads to this Board. From the clerk to County Council, asking to be informed ol the cost of planting and fencing reserves with gums. Information had already been sent. —lt was decided that Messrs Dunn and Taylor be refunded their deposit on the contract lately thrown up.—The pay-sheet 1 amounting to L 275 14s 4d was then [ passed. —lt was decided that Messrs Mackie, Lyttelton, and Irwin be written to, and requested to make good the cross--1 ings on Mitcham road and the Back Track 1 put ,in[;by 'Hoard; thepjad-s journed. |
