“ BOW-WOW !
To the Editor. Sir. —lt appears to me that dogs in Ashburton are becoming as numerous as in Constantinople. Night after night am I kept awake by the barking and howling of what I may term useless animals. Dozens of them are' daily prowling the streets minus a collar, and many of them a good illustration for any one that wishes to lecture on anatomy. Many of our Ashburtunites, like the snobs in the old country, must have a dog at their heels. I do not object to that, providing they would keep them off other people’s heels. I have more than once been attacked by these savage brutes. They very much wished to indulge in a feed from the calves of my legs. Unfortunately for them my calves have gone out to grass, consequently I escaped with but ray trouser legs torn. I am an advocate for a double tax on all useless dogs, and taking it off useful ones. If the Ashburton people are possessed with the same principle as the Turks to kill any of the canine race, I would suggest that they follow the example of (ho Turks by transporting the dogs to some island. Apologising for troubling you, I am, etc., A Resident.
