[per press association.] More “ Burgling.” Auckland, To-day. Solomon Reid’s store, Kyber Pass, was burgled yesternight, Ll2 worth of jewellery being stolen. The thieves were observed and pursued ; they dropped a portion of the booty, and escaped. The Schooner Cathina. Fears are entertained of thejsafety of the schooner Cathina, which is now 38 days out from Port Chalmers for Auckland. Telephonic. The Telephonic Exchange has now 103 subscibers, anda third annunciator for the accommodation of 50 more is being erected. Heavy Rain. The heavy rain to-day flooded a portion of the suburbs, causing considerable damage. Rather Damp. Wellington, To-day. The heaviest downpour of rain experienced here for some time commenced yesterday afternoon, and continued until six o’clock this morning, when it slightly moderated. Light rain is still falling at the Te Aro end of the city, and at Newton floods occurred, and the houses were flooded to a depth of about three feet. In one instance a land-slip carried away the foundation of a house, and it now lies at an angle. At Thorndon the low-lying parts were flooded. No serious damage is yet reported. The boisterous weather has delayed the arrival of the trains. The Frozen Meat Trade. Dunedin, To-day. Mr Begg has received a cable advice that the s.s. Marsala, 2,500 tons, left the Clyde on June 17th for Port Chalmers, there to load frozan'meat. Ten Per Cent. The Equitable Investment Society has declared a ten per cent, dividend for the half-year. He Sees the Error of His Ways. G. R. Mathieson writes to the creditors in Shepherd's estate that he was so far successful in inducing Shepherd to see the error of his ways as to cause him to make a partial restitution. He has recovered several hundred pounds, from which some heavy expenses are to be deducted.
