COMMERCIAL.
* Ashburton Guardian Office, Friday Afternoon.^ Since our last report, a fair business lias been doing in the grain market at previous Quotations. Good milling wheats hav6'heen sold at from 4s lOd to 5s per bushel, f.o.b. ; second.quality, 4s to 4s 6d. Good samples for seed purposes sell at 5s to 5s 6d per bushel, and even a shade higher in some casss. Oats are meeting with fair enquiry, but large stocks are still in hand. Prices range from 3s to 3s 4d for best milling samples, and for feed purposes at from 2s lOd to Ss. There has been a fair demand for barley : prime malting quality at from 4s 6d to 4s lOd in Christchurch ; inferior hinds, from 3s to 3a 6d per bushel. A litfle activity has been shown with regard to grass seed, prices for good clean samples ranging from 5s to 5s 6d per bushel. The weather has been dull and showery during the week, but outdoor work by the plains farmers has not been much retarded in consequence. Com Exchange repprt for the week ending Friday evening, the 28th inst.: - .There is no change to report in the stat<* of the grain mar« ket. Business continues dull, with but little alteration in values. Wheat : Parcels ofgood milling quality are worth 4s lod to 5s per bushel, f.o.b. ; second quality, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; chick wheat, 3s 3d to 4s ; seed samples, 5s 3d to $s 6d per bushel.—Oats ; Milling quality, 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; feed, 3s id to 3s 2d per bushel. —Barley : Really good malting samples are in demand, and saleable at from 4s 6d to 4s qd per bushel; second quality malting is not very saleable, feed samples, 3s 3d to 3s 6d per bushel.—Grass Seed continues in good demand,3 and business has been transacted at prices varying between 5s 3d and 5 s 7d per bushel, indifferently cleaned according to sample; cocksfoot, 5Xd to 5 per lb.—Potatoes : The market continues dull; no large sales have taken place duringthe week. Growers appear unwilling to part except at full rates; prices nominal.—Cheese and Butter : 7 for the former, is id for the latter
