Arrived- —Ship Peru, from Wellington. The Australian Cricketers. The Australian cricketers commenced their match against eleven of Northumberland at Newcastle to-day. Not much interest was taken in the match, and there was not a large attendance of spectators during the day. The Australians went first to the wickets, and put together 193 runs before they were disposed of. The principal scorers were Horan and Garrett, the former being not out for 76 and the latter caught for . 59. The wicket was not in good order. The Home team then commenced their first innings, and at the close of the day’s play had scored 5 for the loss of one wicket. Los don, July 25. The cricket match between the Australians and eleven of Northumberland was concluded at Newcastle to-day, and resulted in an easy victory for the Australians in one innings with 94 runs to spare. The Home team scored 63 in their first innings, and followed on and scored 35 in their second, making a ! total of 98 for the two innings, against 193 of the Australians. The bowling . of the latter was dead on the wicket, , Palmer and Garrett doing great execu- : tion. In the first innings of the I Northumberland men Palmer took six > wickets for 21 runs, and in their second > .innings Garrett took five for 6 runs. ' The weather throughout the match was , fine.

Indian Troops for Egypt. Bombay, July 26. It has now been definitely decided to despatch a full Indian contingent of 6,000 troops to .Egypt. All necessary arrangements as to transport and victualling are complete, and the force will sail without delay.
