’Frisco Maxi.— The Ashburton portion of the ’Frisco mail arrived per Christchurch express this morning. The lington correspondent of the Press, wiring last evening, says :—“ The San FranciflCft mail left here per the Penguin at; .noctt to-day. It could have been here byei* o’clock last evening but for the actipn >of the landing officers at New Plymouth* who detained the steamer there six ,hourt because they would not take the. trouble to go off and bring the maile Ashorej otherwise the mails could have been ;iu Christchurch this morning and -Dunedin this evening instead of a day lata;,.
