A CONVICT OUTBREAK.
[by telegraph.] Auckland, To-day. The captain of the schooner Tele grapher, which arrived from Noumea today, reports an outbreak amongst th convicts, who attempted to escape with a view of seir/ng one of the vessels in th harbor. Several were shot down by the military, and the outbreak was quelled The authorities succeeded in keeping the matter out of the New Caledonian newspaper, and to-day spoke hopefully of the Melanesian mission.
