COMMERCIAL.
Ashburton Guardian Office, Wednesday Afternoon. Messrs Matson, Cox and Co. held their Usual fortnightly sale of stock at the Ashburton Yards yesterday, the l8:h inst., when they had the following entries, viz. 1-1,293 sheep, 46 Pigs, IS head of cattle. This was the smallest sale held for a long time, and prices were -weaker than for several sales. We quitted - sheep as follows 1—125 fat crossbred, 12s ; 35 rdo., 13s; 36 do., 13s 6d ; 352 do., 12s 6d; 100 do., 133; 251 merino wethers, 10s ; 185 merino ewes, 4s 4d (stores); 159 merino wethers, 4s gd (stores); 45 crossbred wethers, " os od (stores). Pigs—32 pigs, Li 4s 6d ; 7 do., 19s ; 7 do., 20s. Cattle—Fat heifer, Ls '6s ; store steers, L 3 25; 5 calves, Li ss, Li as. and Li 3s. The bidding throughout the sa]e was dull in the extreme, and for cattle * 1 very few bids were made, but in sheep nearly every line was sold after the sale at fair prices. Good merino ewes, in lamb, are still enquired for, and we could place several lines at good prices. •
