[by telegraph.] Auckland, To-day. The 5.3. Taiaroa arrived from Fiji this morning. She brings the following items : A mineral deposit has been discovered at Yanni, Lovu. Petty larceny is daily committed at Levuka. Advices from the Duke of York Island state that a trader named Martin, mad-

dened with drink, threatened to shoot the -crew of the cutter Loela, and kept them in terror for some time. At length the master of the Loela, William Stephen, fired off a rifle towards Martin, who got into a boat and pursued Stephen, whom he had thrown overboard, but who had regained the deck. Whether the shot took effect has not transpired ; but Martin fell off the boat and sank, and his body Was not recovered.
