Tawiiaio has written to Mr Dufaur, Winiata’s counsel, alleging that at the banquet at Auckland on the occasion of his recent visit there, |Mr Whitaker said all past troubles and causes of quarrel were to be forgotten from henceforth. He understood that was equivalent to an amnesty for all past offences, and thinks the capture of Winiata was treachery. Tradesmen’s Ball. A tradesmen’s ball to the petty officers of H. M. S. Nelson is to bo held. Hard to Find. A sound bottom for the piles of the railway bridge across the Waikato at Hamilton has not been found at a depth of 80ft below the bed of the river. Refused 1,000 Notes. The Auckland Stud Company refused LI,OOO for their Musket—Sylvia yearling filly. A Detective at FaultWanganui, To-duy. Detective Jeffrey, formerly of Auckland, has been suspended for some time, and in consequence of certain irregularities, the Department gave him the opportunity of sending in his resignation, on account of long service, which he has done. Infected Sheep. In the case of Richardson v. Enderby, whereby defendant is charged by the Sheep Inspector with driving infected sheep on the highway, Mr Ward, R M., gave judgment this morning, inflicting the minimum penalty, L 5, and costs. The case was previously heard on April 22nd, when the Magistrate dismissed it on the ground that at the time of driving, the sheep v'ere covered by a clean certificate, but the decision was reversed on appeal. A similar penalty was inflicted on Keith for the same offence. Found Drowned. Wellington, To-day. At the inquest to-day on the body of Ellen Kenny, found floating in the harbor on Wednesday, a verdict of ‘‘Found drowned ” was returned.
