Mr Gladstone, in reply to a question pul to him in the House of Commons to-day, stated that the Government did not intend to propose a war credit at present, as existing facts did not justify such a request. For Egypt. Arrangements have now been completed by the French and British Governments for despatching an allied army to Egypt. The Australian cricketers commenced their match against eleven of Middlesex county at Lord’s ground today. The attendance at the match was only moderate, the weather being very inclement, and owing to rain the play was stopped thrice during the day. The following are the names of the Home team ;—Messrs C. T. Studd, G. B. Studd, J. C. K. Studd, C. F. IT. Leslie, T. S. Pearson, I. D. Walker, A. G. Webbe, Borrowes, Robertson, Scott, and Burton. The Middlesex team went in first, but owing to the heavy state of the wicket and the splendid bowling of their opponents, they did not succeed in making a stand, and were all disposed of for a total of 104. The following are the individual scores: —Webbe, b, g ; Walker, c, 9 ; Scott, c, 14; Leslie, b, 10; C. T. Studd, b, 23 ; G. B. Studd, c, 2 ; Pearson, b, 4; L E. K. The police have arrested a laborer named Carey on the charge of murdering the late Dr. Kenny in Dublin, on the 4th inst. Deceased it has been ascertained was formerly physician to the Irish Land League. The prisoner made a desperate resistance, and his capture was only effected with difficulty. Clearing Out.
