The Queensland Parliament was opened yesterday by his Excellency the Governor, who, in his speech on the occasion, announced that proposals had been made by certain syndicates for the construction of the Transcontinental railway, which would probably be accepted. The speech further stated that immigration to the colony would be encouraged, and that communications were being exchanged with the Indian Government on the subject of immigration of Coolies to Queensland.

Railway Extension. Sydney, Yesterday. The railway extension from Narandara to Hay was opened by his Excellency Lord Loftus. Sir John Robertson, Sir Alfred Stephenson, and a large number of distinguished persons were present at the ceremony, which passed off with great rejoicing. The Suez Mail. Albany, Yesterday. The P. and O. Company’s steamship Mirzapors with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, June 2nd, arrived in King George’s Sound this afternoon.
