RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

ASHBURTON.— To-day,

(Before Joseph Beswick, Eaq., R.M.) Drunkenness —A first offender was dealt with in the usual way. Unregistered Dog.— John Connell was fined 20s for having an unregistered dog in his possession. Application for a Pawnbroker’s License. —Samuel Salek, of Timaru, applied for a pawnbroker’s license for premises situate in East street. Mr Branson appeared for Mr Salek, and stated that his application had been duly lodged, and was endorsed by five respectable householders. Inspector Pender had reported favorably respecting the character of the applicant, whoso brother was the holder of a pawnbroker’s license in Timaru. —Sergeant Felton had no objection to otter, and the license was granted. A couple of unimportant civil cases having been disposed of, and his Worship having intimated that he was not yet prepared to give his decision in the case Vleharry v. Wilkin and Carter (hoard last Court day), the Court adjourned.
