A Hint.

The international Exhibition at Christchurch will now very shortly

close. The “ World’s Fair,” to call it by a rather high-sounding name, has been liberally patronised during the time it has been on view, and has attracted visitors from all parts of the colony. The attendance would probably have been even larger, as we venture to think, had the Railway Department been a little more liberal in offering facilities to some country residents to run up to Christchurch. The Southland and Otago people appear to have fared better in this respect than the residents of Canterbury. Cheap excursion trains from our part of the world, at all events, have been few and far between. Is it too late to suggest to the powers that be (the railway powers we mean) that another cheap excursion or two from Ashburton would probably be much appreciated by the residents? We have had “specials” passing through here at all sorts of hours at night and in the early morning, filled 'with people bound for the Exhibition, but only two excursion trains have as yet, we believe, started from Ashburton.
