LOYAL ASHBURTON LODGE, 1. 0.0. F., M.U.

At the half-yearly summoned meeting of the Loyal Ashburton Lodge, hejd last evening, there were sixty members present, in addition to several visitors from the sister Lodge at Watertbn. The routine business having been disposed of, the election of officers took place, resulting as follows :—G.M., P.G. Bro. W. E. Dolman; N.G., Bro. J. H. Maynard; V.G., Bro. W. Maynard; E.S., P.G. Bro. T. Williams ; L. S. to N. G., Bro. H. Cotterill; R.S. to N.G., Bro. W. Parkin; R.S. to Y.G , Bro. A. Shetland ; L.S. to Y.G., Bro J. Miles; 1.0., Bro. T. Hughes ; Warden, Bro. 0. Spray. After the installation had taken place, the ceremony being conducted by the retiring G.M., Bro. J. Stribbling, assisted by P.G.’s Bros. Cullen and 0. Reid one candidate was installed. A most pleasing ceremony then took place, being the presentation of a Past Officer’s certificate .of merit (framed) to P.G. Bro. Joshua Tucker, and of a framed address to P.G. Bro. Williams in recognition of their services to the Order. The address to Bro. Williams, which is beautifully illuminated, was the work of Mr T. Goodman, of Christchurch, and was presented to the recipient in recognition of his services during the early days of Oddfellowship in this district, and is now on view in Mr O. Carsten’s window. The presentations were made by Bro. P. G. Reid, accompanied by a few appropriate remarks, and briefly replied to by the recipients. It was announced that the North Canterbury District would hold its next half-yearly meeting at Ashburton on the 9th day of August next, when the local Lodge will hold a dinner in celebration of this—the first district meeting ever held in Ashburton. A committee was appointed to confer with the local Court of Foresters-and other friendly societies in Ashburton,; on the subject of the establishment of an Annual Friendly Societies Fete on the Prince of Wales Birthday. It was resolved to present the retiring G.M. (Bro. Stribbling) with a Past Officer’s certificate of merit, and to place his name on the Merit Board. The usual votes of thanks were recorded to the retiring officers and visiting brethren from Waterton, which were suitably responded to, and the three sentiments of the evening having been given, the Lodge closed. The roll of membership now contains 120 financial members, in addition to which soma ; 2o‘or more prominent business men have become honorary members; additions to the ranks of the latter having been very numerous during the past quarter. The receipts of the evening were LBl los 2d, and the expenditure L 24 3s 3d.
