[pkk reuter’s agency.] Produce. Melbourne, Yesterday. Malting barley is quiet, and prices are unchanged at 5s 3d to 5s sd. The market for New Zealand oats is dull ; feeding sorts remain at 4s td to 4s 3d; milling oats have advanced id, and are now quoted at 3s 3d to 4s 3d. Compromise Effected. Tiie motion of Mr Francis, objecting to the proposed remission of taxation, which was withdrawn last night, will be brought on in the Assembly to-day, when the House goes into committee of Ways and Means. Sir Bryan O’Loghlen has decided not to treat the motion as one expressing a want of confidence in the Government, and a compromise has thus been effected. Mr Berry and his followers are incensed at the arrangement come to, and threaten to support the Government against Mr Francis’ party. In connection with the proposed remissions, in the course of the debate last night, Sir Sir Charles McMahon warmly denounced the action of Ministers during the crisis.

In the Legislative Assembly last night Sir Bryan O’Loghlen, with consent of Mr Francis, announced that the Government had decided to abandon the proposed remission of duty on tea and tobacco; that the question of reducing the inland postage rate would be postponed for a year; and that the proposal to reduce the excise on beer would be allowed to lapse. The nautical enquiry into the cause of the collision between the Union Company’s steamship Arawata and the brig Sea Nymph, which was sunk on the 9th inst., opened to-day, Sydney, To-day. The Marine Board enquiry into the collision between the s.s. Arawata and Sea Nymph on the Bth instant has closed. The Board has found that the captain of the Arawata was to blame for navigating the harbor during the severe weather of the night of the collision, but in consequence ot extenuating circumstances he is only reprimanded and admonished.
