Information has been received that the gteamer Westport is on shore in Horse Shoe Bay, six miles from Akaroa Heads. No lives are lost. The captain thinks the vessel can be got off with assistance. Christchurch, To-day. The steamer Westport ran ashore near the Akaroa Heads this morning in a dense fog. The crew is safe. No passengers were aboard. It believed the vessel can be got off if the weather continues favorable. Escaped Prisoner. The prisoner Longmore, alias Elms, alias Elmsdale, on remand for burglary, made his escape this morning through a window of the room in which he was confined at the Christchurch E.M. Court, whilst waiting for the opening of the Court. He has not yet been re captured. Lucky KaiapoiThe industrial prize at the Exhibition has been awarded to the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company. Good News for Ladies. It is proposed to establish a Ladies’ Club in Christchurch.
