Mailing barley is in good demand at last week’s prices, viz., 5s 3d to 5s £d; wheat (shipping) is quieter, but steady at a decline of 2d per bushel, and is now quoted at 6s 8d to 6s rod. New Zealand oats show a slightly improved tendency. Melbourne Tramways. Melbourne, To-day. A Bill authorising the construction of tramways in this city was under consideration in the Assembly last night. On the motion for the second reading, great opposition was shown to the Bill, and the debate was at length adjourned. Sir Henry’s Return. Sydney, Yesterday. It is announced that Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of the colony, who is now in Europe, will return to Sydney by the Orient steamship John Elder, arriving here on August 4th. Burglars Burked.
The local branch of the Comptoir des Comptes de Paris was broken into last night by burglars. They did not, however, succeed in obtaining any money or valuables.
