RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT
ASHBURTON,— To-day.
Before Joseph Beswick, Esq., R.M., and Messrs Bullock and Cox, J.P.’s.
An Unfortunate. — Peter Romulus, a foreigner, appeared before the Court, charged with vagrancy. Sergeant Felton said that Romulus was in a very wretched state when he was taken into custody, and had no boots to his feet. He had boon frequently in custody before. He was unable to work, and had been an inmate of the Old Men’s Home. He (the Sergeant) did not know what to do with him.—Mr Beswick said he would remand the case for a week, and speak in the meantime to Mr March (charitable aid administrator)
Unregistered Dogs. — R. Ruddick was fined 20s each case for having two unregistered dogs in his possession. Adjourned.—An assault case was adjourned for a week. [The electoral roll cases were then proceeded with, a report of which will .be found elsewhere.]
