[per press association.] A Naughty Young Man. Patea, To-day. A young man named Groflin attempted suicide last night by jumping into the river. He was speedily revived, and brought before the Magistrate, and remanded to Friday. A young lady is the cause of the attempt. The Shag Valley Accident. Oamaru, To-day. Neil McPhee, the fireman hurt in the Railway accident near Kartigi on the night of the 23rd, is dying. His dying depositions were taken yesterday afternoon. Doing the Lakes. Dunedin, To-day. Te Whiti and Tohu left for Invercargill and the Lakes this morning. Gas and Water. In consequence of the great complaints re gas supply, the City Council have discharged twelve of the employes at the works, and intimation was made of a motion to be tabled, dispensing with the engineer. The Council also carried a resolution, asking Parliament to give the citizens increased representation on the Harbor Board.
