The Brigade worked well, and saved the Club Hotel and Rapp and Hare’s store adjoining. The estimated value of the stock is LB,GOO. The City Council have decided to present an address to Commodore Erskine on the arrival of H. M.S. Nelson at Wellington. It was also resolved that the Council convey to the Mayor and Councillors of Timaru, its sympathy with that town in the disaster which has beallen a number of its citizens. In response to an invitation, about 600 poor children assembled this morning, and headed by the Industrial School drum and fife band, marched to the Exhibition, whore they were admitted free by the promoters, and were supplied with refreshments at the Mayor’s expense.

It is understood that the Volunteer Board will recommend the payment of adjutants, and supplying the Force with uniforms in lieu of capitation allowance. Thrown From a Horse. At Bendigo, a boy named Lane, aged eleven years, was thrown from a horse, and dragged over a hundred yards. Death resulted from concussion two days afterwards. Sent For Trial. At tile City Police Court, Samuel Henry Tees was committed for trial for forging and uttering.
