UAThST FROM EUROPE [per reutbr’s agency.] Australia Victorious. ’ London, May 17. The cricket match Australians versus Oxford University—was won today by the Australians by nine wickets. The Oxford University scored 225 in their second innings, G. E. Robinson was the highest scorer with 55. The Australians required 61 runs to win the match, and succeeded in obtaining that number for the loss of only one wicket.. The following is the score :—Bannerman, bowled, nil; Massie, not out, 46 ; Murdoch, not out, 15. Massie, who again batted spendidly, only gave one chance, and his innings was otherwise faultless. Re-elected. George Otto Trevelyan, the newly appointed Irish Secretary, has been reelected for Howick without opposition. Money and the Markets. Consols have advanced to New Zealand securities are unchanged at last quotations. Adelaide wheat has declined to 535, ex store ; New Zealand ditto remains at 51s. Adelaide flour has fallen to 355, ex store. Australian tallow —Best beef, 43s 6d ; best mutton 445. The Wool Sales. At the wool sales to-day 10,600 bales were offered. Port Phillip wools are languid, and small quantities have been withdrawn. The ’Frisco Mail. San Francisco, May 16. The homeward Australian and New Zealand mails, which left Auckland on April 25th, arrived here to-day, being two days in advance of contract time. AUSTRALIAN[per hbuter’s agency.] For Auckland. The extension of the tramway line from its present terminus in Elizabeth street to Circular Quay has now commenced. 'A Blow Up. Melbourne, Yesterday. An explosion of dynamite occurred this morning at Prahran, by which the Coalstone stables were destroyed, many vehicles being shattered to pieces, and the premises adjoining seriously damaged. The explosion is said to have been caused by an incendiary. Railway Extension' 1 Adelaide, Yesterday. A section of the Northern railway, between .Quorn and the Government Gums, which completes the distance of 198 miles from Port Augusta, was opened to-day by the Governor with the customary ceremony.
