Friedlander ~ D. M'Lean ~ D. Oliver ~ J. Ivess ~ D. Cameron ~ D. Williamson ~ A. Dawson ~ S. Saunders ~ W. Horne Bankers: Union Bank of Australia, Ashburton. Solicitor; Mr. E. G. Crisp. Secretary (pro tern.): Mr S. E. Poj’ntz. The Company is proposed to be formed for the establishment of a Woollen Factory, for the purposes of providing a local market for wool grown in the district; of converting the wool into manufactured goods, and of selling such goods wholesale or otherwise. The promoters have arranged for the - purchase, ah a reasonable price, of a snit- . able site with water power, on the bank of the Ashburton river, about threequarters of a mile from the township, and arrangements have been made for the construction of a water-race through the land for the purpose of working the ma- , chinery. Efficient machinery, to the value of £1,500, has already been secured, which : is capable of being worked by either steam or water power. Taking into consideration tho following facts:—l. That woollen goods are imported into tho colony to a very large extent, on which freight and an import duty of IG£ per cent, have to he paid ; 2. I hat the same quality and description of goods can - be manufactured here at leas cost by * using the locally-produced wool; 3. That the present New Zealand factories have • met with great success, but at the same ; time are quite inadequate to the task of supplying the increasing demand; and, 4. That the proposed factory would have a great advantage in being situated in the ' centre of a large wool-producing district, —the Provisional Directors feel that they may confidently submit this prospectus to the public. . „ Objection might be taken to the smallness of the proposed capital as insufficient for carrying on the business on a lucrative scale, but the Provisional Directors, after full consideration of the matter, believe they have taken the wisest course, as, in- • dependency of other reasons, they believe that after the factory is in working order and an established fact, any capital required for a more extended business could be obtained with greater ease and readiness. As the shares have been fixed at a small Amount, persons of limited means as well as capitalists will be enabled to invest in the undertaking, which, in the course of time, is calculated to yield a good intei rest on invested capital, and at the same time establish a permanent industry in the colony. As a largo number of shares have already been applied for, early application is necessary. • Prospectus and forms of application nay be obtained from the Secretary, A shaurton. . The Share List will close on May 18th. 228 e Hotels. 8 OUTH RAKAIA HOTEL. h The Undersigned (late of tho Hurunui Hotel) having taken the above Hotel, begs to inform his friends and the travelling public generally that they will always find there every comfort, combined with civility and economy.
