The promoters have arranged for the . purchase, at a reasonable price, of a »mt- ; able site with water power, on the bank ■of the Ashburton river, about three- ; quarters of a mile from the township, and arrangements have bean made for the construction of a water-race through the laud for the purpose of working the machinery. , , : Efficient machinery, to the value ot £ISOO, has already been secured, which - is capable of being worked by either steam ; or water power. Taking into consideration the following facts’—l. That woollen goods are imported : into the colony to a very large extent, on which freight and an import duty of 16$ - per cent, have to bo paid; 2.
