MR SAUNDERS’ MEETING AT ASHTON.

TO THE EmTOE. Sib, —I read Mr Saunders’ letter in your issue of Wednesday evening, and which I consider has been greatly distorted. My object iu writing to you is to flatly contradict Mr Gilmour’a letter to Mr Saunders, in which he states that the report of Mr Saunders’ meeting, as it appeared in the Ashburton Mail, was false. Now, I attended that meeting, and can positively assert that the Mail's report of that meeting was a faithful record of what took place, and that part particularly referring to the meat and drink given to Judge Johnston is accurate. lam not a partisan, and have not pledged my vote to either candidate, and, while disagreeing with Mr Williams, 1 must assert, in the interests of fair play, that the letter of Mr Gilmour’s, published by Mr Saunders, is not in accordance with the truth. —I am, &c. James Ckoy.
