[PER iuiutrr’s AOBNOY. ] A New Trial.
Melbourne, April 29. On application of the plaintiff a new trial has been ordered in the libel action brought by H. R. Williams, Minister for Mines in the late Berry Administration, against the Afgus, in which the verdict was on the 15th ult. returned for the defendant. A Victory for Sydney. The intercolonial eight-oar boat race, between Victoria and New South Wales crews, was rowed to-day on the Yarra, and resulted in a victory for the Sydney men by three lengths.
A Welcome Rain. Melbourne, This day. Rain has now set in over the greater part of the colony, and all danger of farther drought has been averted. The Produce Market. Adelaide, April 29. Wheat is quieter, at 6s per bushel; town flour is unchanged, at Ll 4 per ton 1 country brands are quoted at JLI3. The Insurance Frauds. The trial of Barker and Horton, on a charge of conspiring to defraud the Australian Mutual Provident Society, was concluded to-day. Both prisoners were found “Guilty,” but sentence was deferred.
