[per reuter’s agency.] Delivery of Suez Mails. London, Jan. 23. The mails via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne on Dec. 14, per Orient Co.’s steamship Cuzco, were delivered here to-day. Money and the Markets. Consols remain at New Zealand securities are unchanged. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, has advanced to 56s ; and Adelaide flour to 42s ; New Zealand wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 525. Australian tallow remains at last quotations. Bismarck on the Rescript. Berlin, Jan. 23. In the Reichstag to-day, Prince Bismarck made a speech in reference to the Prussian Parliament. The Chancellor spoke in strong terms in defence of the same, and stated that all responsibility in connection therewith was fully accepted by the Emperor and by himself as Premier of the Prussian , Ministry, and by the latter as a, whole. ‘
Discretion is the Bettor Part of Valour-, Vienna, Jan. 23. Intelligence has b'sfen received from Bosnia that the insurgents are being rapidly augmented, and now comprise a large body of men, armed with Snider rifles. In view of the strength of the rebels, the Austrian Gendarmes are retreating from their present positions, pending the arrival of reinforcements. A Politic Prince. The Austrian Government recently demanded the surrender of a number of Herzegovinian insurgents who had fled over the border to; Montenegro. Prince Nitika, of the latter principality, however, refused to surrender the refugees, on the ground that considerable excitement has of late shown itself in Montenegro, in consequence of the rising in Herzegovina and the adjoining provinces. Probable Compromise. Cairo, Jan. 23.
The difficulty which has arisen between Cherif Pasha and: the Assembly of Notables in consequence of resolutions recently come to by the latter, in regard to its powers is now improving, and there are signs that an early compromise is likely to be effected.
