New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations:—Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 104^ ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 104; Four and a half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is Li0,750,c00. The Bank rate of discount is unchanged at 5 per cent., and the market rate at 4 per cent. Adelaide wheat remains at 555, ex store ; New Zealand ditto, 525. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 41s. Australian tallow —Best beef, 43s per cwt ; best mutton, 48s. The Land Leaguers. London, Jan. 20. The Irish Executive has decided that Parnell, O’Brien, and O’Kelly, Land Leaguers, shall be detained in custody for a further term of three months. At the expiration of that time they will be released. The Irish Land Act. London, Jan. 21.
A large meeting, attended by 2,000 delegates of Ulster farmers, was held to-day at Belfast, when resolutions where passed in favor of the extension of the Irish Land Act, so as to provide for the appoinment of a Land Commission for each county in Ireland instead of for large districts only, as at present. The meeting further resolved that the reductions in rent which has bi:en made by the Land Courts up to tl|e. present time were totally inadequate, in view of the circumstances of the Irish tenants. The Persecuted Jews. London, January 22. A meeting, to be held at the Mansion House, has been convened by the Lord Mayor, for the purpose of raising funds to assist the persecuted Jews of B s ussia. \ Turkish Buie Rebelled Against. ‘ London, Jan. 23. The Standard to-day publishes a telegram stating that a rebellion has broken out against Turkish rule, in the Yemere province in South West Arabia, and that a severe battle has been fought between the insurgents and the Turkish troops, resulting in the defeat of the former, and the infliction of loss upon them of fully two hundred killed. The French Constitution. Paris, Jan. 21. The committee appointed by the Chamber of Deputies to report on Gambetta’s Bill for the revision of the French Constitution concluded its lapors after being addressed by Gambia at length in support of his principle of measure. The committee resolved to commend to the Chamber the adoption of a counter-scheme of reform, and one which ignores the proposal for the adoption of scrutin de liste. A Spreading Rebellion. Vienna, Jan. 22. Risirg of inhabitants of Dalmania, Herzegovina, and Bosnia,§ is spreading over tqose provinces, and insurgents are actively organising to oppose the Austrian troops. Condemned. St. Petersburg, Jan. 22. The Journal de St. Petersburg , in an article ; to-day fiercely denounces a movement in London to raise subscriptions for Russian Jews, and says that the agitation is founded upon the hatred of Englishmen for Russia. Would-be AssassinsSt. Petersburg, Jan. 20. The would-be assassins of General Tcherevetne, Assistant-Minister of the Interior, on Nov. 25 last, have been found guilty. One has been sentenced to dea!|h, and the other to 25 years’ mprisopraent. Don’t Like It. Vienna, Jan. 20. .Telegrams are to hand reporting tbjat the inhabitants of the province of Bosnia are at the present time much disturbed against the Austrian rule.
