AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
[Per s.s. Rotorua, at the Bluff.] Melbourne, Jan. 17.
A burglary was committed on the premises of the Mutual Store on the night of the 13th. The new premises in course of erection afforded the means for the robbers to scale the walls and effect an entrance by a skylight. One man fell through the skylight on to the floor below, and was found smeared with blood. All the rest effected their escape, carrying with them the proceeds of four cash boxes containing Ll6O. A foolhardy man, the worse for liquor, put his arm inside the bars of the lions’ cage at Wilson’s circus at Albury on Sunday, when one of the quietest caught him and pulled the arm up to the shoulder, then bit it off at the elbow. Edward Linn, the performer, secured the limb, but the man is not expected to recover.
It is stated that the Government wil deal with the Police Commissioners’ re port in about a fortnight. Sydney, Jan. 17.
Rumors are current during the past few days of a disagreement between the Treasurer and Postmaster-General.
