At Kaipara Heads on Tuesday afternoon) the signalman telephoned that a vessell was on shore at Tory Channel, Kaipkra bar, with the loss of her rudder. Captain Smith, pilot, immediately got steam up in the launch and went outside, and found the vessel to be the barque East Lothian, Captain Brophy, from Dunedin. He had tried the bar on a light westerly wind, but drifted on to the bar, losing the rudder by bumping. The pilot took her in tow, and before sundown had her safely anchored off the North Head pilot station. Tawhiao. The report of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand for the half-year says : The net profit for the term is L 17.593, or with balance from last half-year, L 19,990. From this has to be deducted L 2,051, tax on note circulation and Property Tax, leaving available for distribution L 17,939. The {Directors recommend a dividend of 7 pijr cent, per annum, and to carry LI,C|OO to the reserve fund, raising it to L 31,000, and leaves a balance to be carried forward of L 2,939. Morris retires from the Board at this meeting, in accordance with the deed of settlement, and is not eligible for reelection until the next annual general meeting. Allan, in which the plaintiff claimed L 2,500 damages, retired this morning, and after coming into Court and hearing from the Judge that L 5 would carry costs, they gave a verdict for the plaintiff for that amount. The Judge said it was the most curious verdict of all the curious verdicts he had ever heard. | Progression. Tile Union Steamship Company have purchased in Sydney the wharf, stores, and buildings formerly occupied by the Australian Steam Navigation Company for L 35,000.
