ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Ashbui ton School Committee was held last nil;ht at the schoolhousu. Present— Mr S(. Hill (Chairman), and Messrs Hodder, Andrews, and J. Ward (Secretary). . CORRESPON PENCE Was re ad as follows : From the Education Board, notifying the appointment of Mr H. Dempsey to the head-mastership of the Ashburton School. A circular was read from the same, stating that three members of the Board of Education would retire (by rotation) on March 31st next, and reminding the Committee that each committee was required some lame before the 31st inst., to . send in to t.ie Board the names of two persons qualified to act as members. The retiring members were Mr W. Montgomery, Mr C. 0. Bowen, and Mr G. Booth, who were eligiblii for re-election. —The Chairman remarked that as the meeting was such a small one it would be well to hold the matter over for future consideration. It was redolved—“That the matter stand over until idle 23rd, the day of the annual meeting. From the same (a second circular), asking for! the ordinary returns required at the commencement of a new year. From Mr F. Mayo, handing in his resignation as assistant-master at the Ashburton school, in consequence of his recent appointment to the View Hill school. He wished to leave immediately. —The resignation was accepted and the Secretary was instructed to write to the Board of Education, notifying the same, and asking whether the Committee should advertise for another assistant. The Secretary was further asked to communicate with Mr Mayo, stating that his resignation would be accepted from the 10th of February. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting will take place on the 23rd inst., and it was resolved that a special mooting be held half an hour prior to the annual meeting, for the purpose of receiving the balance sheet and report. ANNUAE AUDIT. It was resolved—“ That Mr Boyle be asked to audit the accounts.” ACCOUNTS. Several accounts were passed for payment, find the Board adjourned.
