Ashburton Guardian Office, - Monday afternoon. Mr Alfred Harrison reports having held a, clearing sale at Mr Ryan’s grocery Store, when the whole stock were disposed of at capital prices. Entries in draughts and hacks at his weekly sale was numerous but sales very dull. Plenty of pigs came forward, and all lots were cleared at value somewhat lower than last week. Several reapers and binders and other implements were disposed of to satisfaction of owners. All kinds of produce are now scarce, but all 1 fsts coming to hand find a ready sale at h[)gh prices. A quantity of drapery and sundries sold well, the attendance being moderately good. Horse Market. Mr T. Bullock reports for the week ending January 7th : At the Bazaar, Burnett street, on Saturday, the number of horses brought forward for sale was 29, a large proportion of which were medium draughts, and for which there was a very spirited bidding ; hr fact j much better than there has been for .some months past. Farmers appear alive to the fact that they cannot afford to give, fancy prices for superior draughts excepting only a draught mare occasionallyffor breeding purposes, consequently, higik-priced horses are difficult to sell. For? hacks there was little or no demand, andilthe same remark applies to light trap homes. There wr-a only an average attendance, but ou t of the' 29 entered I succeeded in selling 13 at the following prices, viz—Medium draughts, L 25, L 24 10s, L 24, L 22, L2;2, L2l, L2olos, L2olos, T.9C Aged horses and inferior draughts, LIB, Ll3los, Lll 10s. Hacks, LBlss and LBlOs. Harness, sundries, etc., at satisfactory prices. I offered a Walter A. Woods wir i and string t inder, but the bidding did not reach owner’s reserve, consent; ally was' passed in. There has been sev< ral enquiries for it, and no doubt will be sold privately.—Landed properties.—l goK?
