[per beuter’s agency.] Cricket. Melbourne, Yesterday. The cricket match between the All England Eleven and the Combined Australian team was resumed to-day. The Englishmen continued their second innings with Scotton and Shaw at the wickets. The following are the scores of to-day’s play ; —Scotton, not out, 50 ; Shaw, caught, 40 ; Pilling, bowled, 3 ; Peate, run out, 2. The visitors were all disposed of for 308 runs. The home team commenced their second innings, and when the stumps were drawn had lost three wickets for 127 runs. The match was drawn, the Australians requiring 156 runs to win. Oats. Oats are firmer in consequence of short supplies. New Zealand feed are quoted at 3s 2d and milling at 3s 4d ; wheat is quoted at 4s qd. They Are Coming. Sailed, this evening—Arawata, for the Bluff. The English cricketers are passengers by her. Determined Attempt to Burn a Ship at Anchor.

Melbourne, To-day. An unsuccessful attempt was made last night to set fire to the ship Oasis, lying at Sandridge pier. A quantity of shavings saturated with resin and kerosene was found to be on fire, but was extinguished without any damage being done. The carpenter of the ship is stated to be implicated in the attempt. Shipping. Sydney, Yesterday. Sailed, this afternoon —Hero, s.s., for New Zealand. Small-Pox. All the small-pox patients are now progressing favorably towards recovery. Political. Brisbane, Yesterday. Mr Archibald Archer has been appointed to the Colonial Treasurership, temporarily held by the Hon. Thomas Mcllraith, vice Sir Arthur Palmer, who recently accepted the Presidency of the legislative Council. Mr Archer will also ho'd the portfolio of Public Instruction.
