FIRE IN MOORE STREFT.

A little daughter of Mr W. Adams’, while looking for the kitten to amuse th® baby with, last evening, accidently set lira ' to the hangings of the dressing table with a lighted candle. There was a blaze, but fortunately all danger was averted before the arrival of the Brigade on the spot. The cottage (belonging to the Koad Board) was insured, but Mr Adams was wholly uninsured, and calculates his loss at about Ll2. Two LI notes lying on the dressing table were burned, and a .: quantity of clothing, etc. Mr Adams waa censured by some persons for leaving a light in his house for the children to get hold of when he went out with his wife; but he assures us that he himself extinguished the fire in the grate before he went out, and also the lamp and candle. He merely went out with Mrs Adams round the corner into Bast street to make a trifling purchase, and they were not away more than eight minutes, but this was long enough to allow of the mischief being done. On Mr Adams’ return he says he could have put the fire out if some of the bystanders had handed him a hatful of water from the side channel. The , J.j only reply to this request he could get was —“ Oh, the engine will be here directly.” The help he did get was not very valuable. People got into the house and commenced to throw loaves of bread, tea and sugar, _ knives and forks, plates and dishes, over the fence, and so added considerably to the loss arising from the fire.
