Ashburton Guardian Office, Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Alfred Harrison reports of his Weekly sale, held on Saturday last, as follows : —Entries in draughts and hacks very heavy, but sales very dull. Figs also heavy, and all lots sold at fair prices. Turkeys, geese, and fowls entered in flocks, nearly all being sold, but prices somewhat lower than what might have been expected at this season of the year. Light carts, Ll 6 and Ll2; implements, no inquiry ; potatoes, old, 40s ; wheat, 3s per bushel; barley, 2s per bushel; crushed oats, 2s ; cheese, 4d ner lb ; bacon, 5d per lh ; hams, 5d to 8d per lb ; tea, 21s. Harness sold well. The entries in sundries Were very light, and the attendance only moderate. On Tuesday, December 20, I made a valuation of the furniture, effects, and stock at the Spread Eagle Hotel, Mr Phillip Tisch having retired from the business, and .transferred the whole to Mr Yinsen, a gentleman well-known and respected iu Christchurch, and who will without doubt very soon gain the respect of the district in which he has now commenced business.
