MOUNT SOMERS PUBLIC SCHOOL.

The annual distribution of prizes and childrens’s “treat” took place in the schoolroom on Christmas Eve. The number of persons present, including the children, being about 150. The teacher —Mr Williams—-who has been but a short time in charge of the school, distributed the prizes in accordance with a method which was fully explained, and which appeared to give general satisfaction, not only to the children, but to all present. The tea over, and J. E. Taylor, Esq., of Buccleuch, Chairman of the Local Committee, having taken the chair, Mr Williams delivered an address upon education and kindred subjects. He was followed by Mr Price, and also by Mr Puddicombe during the evening. After a few songs had been sung by Mr Price, junior, and by Messrs O’Neill, Jones, and Williams, a pleasant evening was brought to a close, a little dancing having been indulged in. This little gathering at Mount Somers is said to have afforded much more satisfaction than on previous occasions ,of the kind. The assemblage dispersed in much good humor at twelve o’clock.
