[per reuter’s agency.] Ecclesiastical. London, Dec. 21. A circular has been issued to the English clergy by Dr Tait, Archbishop of Canterbury, in which the latter proposes that more direct communication should be established between the Home and Colonial Churches, with a view to encourage the spread of Christian knowledge in the colonies, and also for the spiritual benefit of emigrants. Spain Protests. Madrid, Dec. 21 In the Cortes to-day Signor Armio, Minister for Foreign Affairs, announced that a protest had been made recently by Spain to England against the charter granted to the North Borneo Trading Company, and that diplomatic correspondence was now proceeding between the British and Spanish Governments in regard to the matter. The Mails. Albany, Dec. 22. The P. and O. Company’s steamship Surat, with the Suez mail, which left London on November ißth, arrived in King George’s Sound to-day.
