COMMERCIAL.
London Seed Trade. Messrs John Shaw atid Sons, of 37, Mark Lane, E.t3., report through their agent ! IMt Leonard W. Blake, of Christchurch,) that the market during the fortnight ending November 3 continuod "extremely quiet, but a very firm tone pervaded the trade for all varieties of •teds. In red clover, really fine English promises to be very scarce, and to command fancy prices later on. American was still neglected on the English market, but owing to some operations on the part of the Germans, quotations had advanced shout Is per cwt., and freights for it are higher than they were. A few parcels of English cow grass were being shown, of poor quality generally, while prices asked were high. White clover decidedly tending upwards in price ; fine qualities fetching tremendous prices already, and notwithstanding were eagerly looked for. Alsyke continued very firm for ordinary ; fine quality must be noted dearer. Trefoil snd Italian rye grass quiet but firm. Timothy very scarce ; indeed it is probable that there never was so little seed left over before as is the case this year ; but little «■ known of the crop so far, but it is reported to be small. Canary is quoted better, but no great improvement is perceptible in the demand.
