[per reuter's agency.] Amicably Settled. Melbourne, Yesterday. The dispute between Professors Elkington and Nanson, in regard to the fracas which recently occurred at the University Board meeting, has now been amicably settled, and the threatened action has been abandoned. Heavy Storm. Sydney, Yesterday. A storm of unusual violence, accompanied by heavy rain, with thunder and lightning, was experienced here to-day. No damage, however, has been done to buildings in the city; Fire. A destructive fire has occurred at Newcastle. The losses are covered by insurance in the various Australian offices. Shipping. Arrived—Pacific Company’s steamship City of New York, from San Francisco, via Auckland. Prorogation of Parliament Melbourne, To-day. It is expected that Parliament will be prorogued this day. The Row at the Melbourne University The decision of the University Council in connection with the fracas between the Professors has been amended. Professor Elkington has been suspended for one month and Professor Mauson has been fined LSO.
