SOUTHLAND JOCKEY CLUB RACES Invercargill, Yesterday. The first day’s races were rather poorly attended. The following are the results:— Derby.— Mameluke, 1; Flageolet, 2 ; Butterfly and Nigger also ran. Time, 2min 58£sec. Maiden Plate. —Brewer, 1; Flageolet, 2; Alice. 3. Time, 2min 58£sec. Southland Cup. —Tasman, 1; Volunteer, 2. Adamant was scratched. Time, nearly Strain. Southland Hussar Plate.—Ploughboy, 1. Eight others started. District Selling Race.— Kingbird, 1; Tom King, 2. Patch also started. A Hack Selling race and Hurry Scurry closed the day’s sports.
