MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.

The Board held its usual monthly meeting on Thursday last. Present—Messrs Alington, Pannett, and the Chairman (Mr Julian Jackson). The Overseer’s report was read and considered.

James Daley wrote, applying for one month’s extension of time to complete his contract, viz., formation of Thompson’s Track. Granted.—The County Council wrote, informing the Board that a special meeting of the Council had been held for the purpose of confirming the decision of the ratepayers, re closing the road leading through the Coiwar property The Overseer was instructed to advertise the final closing of the said road against all traffic. The Overseer was instructed to request Mr Dowley, of Highbank, to open several roads that were now fenced across.

An application from rD. Henderson was received for the use of the office twice in the month.—Granted, upon certain conditions being complied with. A petition was received from Messrs Gould and Cameron and others, requesting the Board to open up a road through land, the property of Messrs Hall and England, so as to shorten the distance from Methven to the bridge over the north branch of the Ashburton. —As the line proposed would only shorten the distance about 60 chains, the Board considered they were not justified in incurring such a heavy expense for so short a distance.

The Overseer was instructed to advertise the election of two members in the place of Messrs E. Chapman and John A. Pannett, who retire by rotation, but are eligible for re-election. The nominations to take place on the sth January at the Road Board Office, Methven, and a poll, if necessary, to take place on the 11th. Mr W. B. Compton was appointed Returning Officer for the district. Tenders had been called for the formation of 80 chains of Barker’s road, and for shingling the same. Only one tender had been received, and being informal, it was not accepted. Fresh tenders were ordered to be called for the work. After passing accounts to the amount of L 257 10s lOd, the Board adjourned till January 12 th, 1882.
