[per reutbb’s agency.] Home. London, Dec. 7. Arrived—Ship St. Leonards, from Lyttelton. The Pareora. As the ship Pareora, bound for Auckland, was in the Downs she was obliged to slip her anchors to avoid collision with another vessel, by whom she would inevitably have been run down. She was towed back to the Thames for fresh anchors. The owner of the tug has claimed L 5,000 salvage money. The Pareora has since sailed again for Auckland.

A grand and impressive ceremony was performed to-day at St. Peters, the occasion being the canonization of four eminent deceased members of the Church of Rome. The rites of canonization were performed by Pope Leo, and the proceedings were marked with great splendour and brilliancy. His Holiness whose health has for a long time past been most unsatisfactory, continues in a very feeble state, and was only able with difficulty to take part in the day’s proceedings.
