MR IVESS AT RAKAIA.

lllr Joseph Ivess addressed the Wakanui electors-at Rakaia on Saturday evening—or rather he attempted to do so—-but his reception was not flattering, and his selection of Mr Walsh, a local resident, as Chairman was most unfortunate. Hoots, groans, yells, whistles, and cock-crows greeted Mr Ivesp every time that unhappy candidate attempted to open his mouth. Over 100 people were present, arid when thfey were not engaged in whistling, yelling, or groaning, they were lowing like cattle, barking) like , dogs, or squeaking like pigs. After, remonstrating with his unruly auditors again and again to no purpose, Mr Ivess, not unnaturally, lost his : temper. ' He'told his audience that they were blackguards, and thereby poured oil on the flames. ■ After that “ chaos j -reighed”- indeed, and the proceodings ; came to a very abrupt termination.
