! There has been very little business doing in the grain market during the week. Advices from Home continue to be favorable, but. a slight downward tendency is being felt here in consequence of the good harvest prospects before us. In wheats nothing but a hand-to-mouth trade has been done, and only milling lots meet with any demand at previous quotations. Oats have declined slightly owing to a fall in .Melbourne and elsewhere, and the ' heavy stocks yet held here. Barley ' for malting samples meet with fair enquiiy, and prices remain fairly firm. The wool sales in Christchurch were largely attended during the week, and prices for same must be considered very satisfactory. The average prices obtained • for merino greasy was from 6d to 10£d, tlnd cross-breds from 7d to 10£d. The weather his been very fine, but rain has beeri wanted badly in many parts of this Cbunty. The ground has got exceedinly : hard, and very little breaking-up has been done. We hope that a change for ■ rain may take place soon, in order to give the crops on the plains a good chance. Hay-making has occupied the attention of ; most of the farmers during the week, and some very good crops have been cut up to the present time. > Christchurch. Com Exchange. •’ oCora Exchange Report for the week ending Friday evening, the 2nd instant: -The past week has been but a repetition of the previous one. Business in the grain trade is almost at a Standstill. The weather continues very dry, and the farmers are beginning to complain. — [ , Wheat ; Good sound milling is worth from 4s fid to 4s gd bushel f.o.b. ; second quality, 4s to 4s 3d per bushel; chickwheat, 3s to 3s fid per bushel,—Oats : Values appear to have experienced a slight relapse (i.e., from the prices ruling when the spurt took place); good stout milling are worth from 2s to 2s id f.0.b.; feed quality to is icd to is nd per bushel.— Barley : Little or no business is being transacted in.this cereal. The malting season is now over, the only buyers for good malting are shippers: samples of the foregoing range from gd to 3s, feed 2s to 2s 3d per bushel. — ! Potatoes :■ ThefSeason is now so far advanced i ' that old potato* sare net much wanted, new ■ ones.now beginning to take their place. Prices from 253 to 27s 6 d, sacks included.—Cheese and "Butter ; The former is in good demand, • particularly that from the favorite dairies, and ■.; readily saleable at from 4d to 4% per lb ; the ; , latter is.plentiful at 5 to fid per lb.
