TO THE EdITOB. •'.,. ; Sir,—Being an old sportsman, and one that takes great interest in the affairs of the turf, I hasten to correct , an. error which appeared in your issue of the 26th ult. I should have done so sooner, but the present postal arrangements prevented me from doing so. The coming contest is of more than usual interest, and the farmers are betting freely on this eventful race The error I wish to correct is " Early Bird's " statement of the pedigree of Mr Weighson's b h said to be by Agriculturist—Bonny Blue? Eyes. , That gentleman has inadvertently made an error which may be fraught with very serious consequences to farmers, who, not being acquaint'ecr with the tricks of the turf > will place confidence in his ", straight 'tip. I therefore think it well that they should know his correct pedigree, and a few of the facts connected with his pas? performances. Agriculturist's., pedigree ifl anything but satifactory, for I find on referring to some notes by me that he ia by Sportive Maid (sic), sire.: Jumper, granddam Racer Jess, and for her staying powers. Sportive Maid was a carriage mare, a beautiful* bay, but never of any consequence. She was highly prized by her owner, who would not part with her on no account. Jumper was a celebrated horse'in that part of the country he was reared in—■ within the sound of the : ManohUneTbells.
