Auckland, To-day. It is reported that Mr Sheehan will be a candidate for Waitemata. Mr Reader Wood is likely to contest Eden. Mr James Clark (Mayor) will probably contest City East.
The Wrong Way. Hokitika, To-day.
The steamer Charles Edward reports that on Sunday morning, on the passage here from Westport, a young married woman named Way jumped overboard and was never seen after. Cement for the Harbor Works. New Plymouth, To-day. The schooners Mary Bannatyne and Sarah Pile are unloading their cargoes of cement at the New Plymouth harbor works. Another “ Vote of Confidence." Dunedin, To-day. Mr G. F. Brown received a vote of confidence at Lawrence last night. The candidate avowed himself a free trader, a secularist, and a Ministerialist. Opening of Balclutha Bridge. The Balclutha traffic bridge was opened with some ceremony, yesterday, by Mr Macandrew. Burned to Death. James Geddis, five years old, was burned to death at Green Island yesterday, during his mother’s absence. The Rolls. Inveecaegill, To-day. The Invercargill electoral roll contains 1,773 names ; an increase of 1,010 over last year’s. The other rolls in the Southland district also show a large increase.
