“Guardian” Office, Friday afternoon. The business in the grain market has been exceedingly quiet during the week, transactions being confined to small trade requirements. Wheats have been offered pretty freely at easier rates than ruled the previous fortnight, but buyers do not care to be anxious to operate at all. For prime milling from 4s Id to 4s 4d are the prices now quoted, and a few small lots have been quitted at even a shade higher. Four is in fair demand, and best brands fetch about Lll' 10s to Ll2 per ton for the trade lots. Oats continue to be asked after, but very little business has been done, and prices remain at about 2s for prime samples. Barley has improved somewhat, and the demand may be said to bo increasing for good malting samples, which are readily saleable at 3s 4d to os ou. For seed purposes none is being enquired after, as ’the season is] now virtually ever. The weather has been warm and in every way genial for the farmers, and the crops are now showing the efifeot of the present favorable season. The grub has been very destructive in many parts of the county, and farmers are perplexed at its increasing ravages to their crops, and bow to cope with the pest in order to lessen its ravages seems a difficulty not easily overcome. Grass lands have improved considerably, and heavy crops of hay and seed are promised. .
