UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday last. Present —Messrs McLean (chairman), Harper, Stitt, and Sargeant. The Overseer’s report was considered. The Clerk was directed to convey the sincere thanks of the Board to Mr John Grigg for acting as arbitrator in the matters between the Eangitata and this Board. The Board was directed to write to Mr John McLean re the land on which the Road Board offices are situated.

Tenders were opened for planting, fencing, etc. The Clerk was requested to write to the County Council for their share of the planting fund, explaining that a large portion had been done, and that the remainder of the work was in hand.

Correspondence was read as follows.— From Messrs Acland and Campbell re road diversion.—From Samuel Mullins, asking for the use of reserve No. 1980. Mr Robert Aiken wrote for the use of the same reserve. The Board decided, as Mr Mullins had made the prior application, he was best entitled to the reserve. —A circular re taking lands for public works was read. The Chief Surveyor wrote re boundaries of the different wards. The Clerk stated the desired information bad been forwarded.—From the same, returning map.—From the Rangitata Road Board, asking for information as to the amount of rates collected during the financial year ending March, 1881, and also what amount, if any, was uncollected in the Rangitata portion at the date of separation. The Clerk was directed to reply. From Mr J. C. Bell re valuation of the district.—The Clerk was requested to ask the half cost of the fence between the Board’s reserve 2064 and the Tinwald domain. He was also instructed to advertise that all unpaid rates will be sued for after the Ist December. Also to call for tenders for. timber crossing at Winchmore into the north branch of the Ashburton. The Board then adjourned.
