MR WASON AT LONGBEACH.

♦ [from our own correspondent.] Mr Wason met the electors of this district at the Longbeach main school last evening. There were about 50 people, including some ladies, present. Mr John Qrigg was voted to the chair, and in it few

eulogistic remarks introduced the candidate, who spoke for a considerably time,, and gave hia views on some of the- most important questions of the day. At the close of his address questions were asked by Messrs Bryant, Davies, Gilmore, and O’Shanassy. Mr Grigg then addressed the meeting and spoke of the high estimation in which Mr Wason was held throughout the district, stating that men of weight and influence should be returned to Parliament. After a pause, Mr Grigg said if there were no more questions he would propose a vote of confidence in Mr Wason. Before this was seconded, Mr Wason said ho would much rather that some gentleman should propose a vote of thanks simply.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Gilmour and seconded by Mr John Barr and carried, about twenty hands being held up in favor of it and none against. Mr Wason then proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman, and the meeting, which was very orderly throughout, closed.
